Hey guys,i have the opportunity to buy a 1995 xlh harley sportster 1200 for roughly $2500-3000. it only have 16,000 miles and has been taken care of its whole life. it has been sitting in my parents friends garage for the last two years and it doesnt run, but it did run when they put it in there according to them when they had first put it in there. i want to invest in the bike because it is in great condition and only 16,000 miles on a 1995, what a steal. i was just wondering what are some things i should look at if it doesnt start? it turns over just fine, i would assume the carb just needs a good cleaning? anyone with more experience than me have anything pros/ cons for buying the bike? i just dont want to invest in a bike that is going to cost me more in hidden repairs than the bike is worth.thanks guysadding to what i said before. everything looks good. i took a look at it today and the tires are in good condition, the chain could use a little bit of a oiling. when i looked at the oil, it was a little low. thanks for the input so far. just what i was expecting to hear which is good. im a little skidish about putting it in the shop cause of the run around sometimes you get. although they do good work and it would under warrenty. the dillema is that i want to get it running so i know it runs but i want to leave it alone so i can get a decent deal because it doesnt run and then look at it. if that makes any sense. So my wife and i are getting ready to get our first harley. i went to the dealer and sat on a whole bunch of bikes and since i 've been racing dirtbikes since i was 10, i really like the compact feeling of the sportster. my question is... i weigh 210 and my wife weighs 170. the guy at the dealer said that the weight will be too much for an 883 and need to go with the 1200. is this true or is he just trying to sell me a bigger bike? my 2-stroke 400 dirtbike can pull both of us without any issues whatsoever. that is why i am kinda confused. thanks in advance!jake (Read answers)
